# Development API

API stands for **Application Programming Interface**. It's essentially the documented way developers are expected to communicate with a system instead of modifying its internal code.

#### Common types of APIs in scripting

* **Function APIs** – Functions you can call from your script.
* **Export APIs** – Functions exposed by another resource.
* **Event APIs** – Events you can trigger or listen for.
* **HTTP APIs** – Web endpoints your script can send requests to.
